Lige Island

Sight 1

Lige Island

里格岛

Lige Island. Lige Island is the most iconic peninsula in Lugu Lake, where a traditional Mosuo village nestles between mountains and water, its wooden log houses gracefully scattered along the shore. At dawn, mist drifts over the lake's surface, with pig-trough boats gently swaying among the haze, creating a scene straight out of a painting. This is a prime spot for admiring the lake views and the majestic Gemü Goddess Mountain, as well as a wonderful place to experience Mosuo matriarchal culture and hear tales of the walking marriage. Whether hiking or cycling around the lake, visitors can feel the harmonious coexistence of nature and humanity. The island's guesthouses and viewing platforms offer exceptional vistas, perfect for savoring a moment of serene, slow-paced time.

Gemu Goddess Mountain

Sight 2

Gemu Goddess Mountain

格姆女神山

Gemu Goddess Mountain. Standing as the tallest peak beside Lugu Lake, Gemu Goddess Mountain is revered by the local Mosuo people as the incarnation of the goddess, holding a sacred status. The mountain resembles a reclining lion, earning it the alternative name "Lion Mountain." Visitors can take a cable car to the summit to enjoy panoramic views of Lugu Lake, soaking in the interplay of lake and mountain scenery against the changing hues of dawn and dusk. On the mountain, there is also the Goddess Cave, featuring stunning stalactites in various forms, where locals come to offer their prayers. This site is not only a natural scenic wonder but also a significant gateway to understanding Mosuo culture.

Grass Sea

Sight 3

Grass Sea

草海

Caohai. Caohai is a lush wetland in the southeastern part of Lugu Lake, named for its dense aquatic plants that sway with the wind like a sea. Known as the "emerald of the plateau," it is an exceptional spot for watching sunrises and migratory birds. Visitors can take pig trough boats through the reeds to experience the unique "walking marriage" culture of the Mosuo people up close. In autumn and winter, flocks of waterfowl gather here, creating a tranquil and pristine scene that is a paradise for photography enthusiasts. Caohai, together with the surrounding green mountains and villages, showcases the unique ecological beauty of plateau lakes.

Walking Marriage Bridge

Sight 4

Walking Marriage Bridge

走婚桥

The Walking Marriage Bridge. Located above the Caohai (Grass Sea) in the southeastern part of Lugu Lake, the Walking Marriage Bridge is a symbol of the "walking marriage" custom in Mosuo culture. This long wooden bridge stretches across the wetland, connecting villages on either side. It serves both as a meeting place for Mosuo men and women and as a fine spot to admire the grassy expanse and distant mountains. Strolling along the bridge, visitors can experience the region's unique customs and picturesque lake-and-mountain scenery.

Goddess Bay

Sight 5

Goddess Bay

女神湾

Goddess Bay. Located on the shores of Lugu Lake, Goddess Bay is renowned for its crystal-clear blue waters and golden sunsets. With its wide-open views, it is an excellent spot for taking in the lake's scenery and the Mosuo villages. In the early evening, as the setting sun casts its glow across the water, the bay creates a striking contrast with Goddess Mountain, offering a truly breathtaking spectacle. Visitors can stroll along the lakeside road, soaking in the tranquility and natural beauty, or capture the charm of the traditional timber houses and pig trough boats with their cameras. Please respect the local culture, and it is recommended to set aside half a day to fully savor the experience.

Daluoshui Village

Sight 6

Daluoshui Village

大落水村

Daluoshui Village. As the earliest developed Mosuo village along Lugu Lake, Daluoshui is the starting point for most travelers exploring the lake. Traditional Mosuo log houses are preserved here, with pig-trough boats resting quietly on the crystal-clear shoreline. You can take a boat trip across the lake to get a close-up view of Goddess Gemu Mountain shrouded in morning mist; in the evening, join the Mosuo Jiacuo dance party and experience the unique matriarchal family culture. The village is well-equipped, with guesthouses and restaurants clustered together, making it an ideal base for a lakeside tour. The lakeside viewing platform is an excellent spot for capturing sunrise—in the early morning, the lake surface is as smooth as a mirror, reflecting mountain shadows and prayer flags in a serene, mysterious scene.
